On August 27, 2014, Women in International Security, Women’s Action for New Directions, and the U.S. Institute of Peace discussed their recently released toolkit, “Women, Peace and Security: Practical Guidance on Using Law to Empower Women in Post-Conflict Systems.” The toolkit, authored by Julie L. Arostegui, J.D. in collaboration with Veronica Eragu Bichetero, demystifies international legal principles and national obligations and identifies legal tools that can help operationalize principles of gender equality and women’s rights in post-conflict processes.
Arostegui examines practical measures on how to integrate international principles on gender equality and women’s rights into post-conflict legal systems with case studies from the Great Lakes region of Africa. Learn more from the author about the toolkit and it’s uses here.
